Attorney – Environmental and Energy Practice Group, Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC

Years in current role: 32

What gives you confidence about how Rochester businesses and institutions are addressing environmental challenges?

Our Rochester clients are very focused on understanding current and future environmental regulatory requirements (e.g., CLCPA), and on implementing strategies to ensure compliance and evaluate energy options and costs. They are intelligent, inquisitive and committed to progress.

What area do you think needs more attention or collaboration to strengthen Rochester’s environmental future?

It is not limited to Rochester, but to achieve environmental objectives that New York has established, a comprehensive educational component is needed to ensure organizations and the public understand the unprecedented and dramatic change that will happen. Additionally, with cutbacks in federal funding, creative thought is necessary to identify the means to implement the change.

What advice would you offer to individuals or organizations that want to start making a measurable environmental difference?

Two things come to mind. First, recognize that organizational investments that require environmental permitting will need additional time and may need additional resources, both to account for climate change requirements that are effective in New York. Second, evaluate opportunities for energy savings and work with experienced advisors. You can make a difference for the environment and your organization.
