Market Leader

The Rochester Business Journal and The Daily Record seek an experienced, strategic, innovative, and results-oriented multimedia Market Leader. This is a rare opportunity to join a respected brand that is constantly innovating to meet the needs of our readers and advertisers and developing new products to help our clients grow their business.

This role manages the business side of the operation. This includes sales account managers, events, and public notice advertising. The position is responsible for guiding a team to reach revenue budgets for the organization through multimedia sales, thought leadership opportunities and events. The Market Leader will also be selling and managing accounts to ensure the team reaches the monthly annual budget.

The ideal candidate must have a proven history of growing revenue, the ability to create and articulate the vision for new and existing products, train and manage a team and the ability to multitask and meet deadlines to ensure the organization thrives. The position is charged with establishing strategic plans for revenue growth, increasing market share and generating ideas to grow prospects and existing clients; building, developing and managing the sales team; and building your own book of business. You will be responsible for driving revenue, presenting high-visibility events and developing ancillary revenue streams.

Required skills for the position:

  • Keen understanding and proven track record of selling and managing niche digital, print, sponsorship and thought leadership products.
  • Experience with Business to Business / niche and audience based management and selling.
  • Experience developing and implementing sales strategies and new products from start to finish including: writing promotional pieces, managing the work through the design HUB, managing the order entry system, tracking accounts through Excel and Google Sheets and working with editorial to implement special product visions. Experience developing business to business events is a plus.
  • Proven track record of meeting quarterly and annual sales budgets through effective sales management.
  • Ability to create sales management tools using Excel and Google Sheets and train the team on new products and multimedia sales skills. Ability to create and manage timelines for sales, events and marketing. Ability to create email marketing and understanding of social marketing is a plus.
  • Strong closing skills, ability to create proposals and proven ability to working successfully with clients and staff in a remote or in-person environment based on the current pandemic.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills and experience with public speaking is a plus.
  • Ability to multi task and manage a fast paced environment selling various products and managing many deadlines simultaneously.
  • A highly motivated, high energy team leader who likes to have fun while working hard and celebrate success.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills in particular Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Ability to learn order entry systems and work in Google sheets. Budgeting and P/L experience is a plus.
  • Successful sales history with niche products and 2+ years of management experience. A Bachelor’s degree is required.

MultiMedia Account Manager

The Rochester Business Journal and The Daily Record (Rochester) have an opening for an experienced, strategic, innovative, and results-oriented multimedia sales executive. This opportunity is for a candidate who has a keen understanding of digital, event sponsorship, special products and print advertising sales and a strong understanding of audience-based selling.  Experience in developing and executing successful sales strategies across multiple platforms is required.  The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of meeting a monthly sales budget through smart prospecting, needs based selling techniques, strong closing skills and the ability to multi-task successfully.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. We are seeking a motivated, high energy salesperson with a proven record of exceeding goals who wants to join a successful team who likes to have fun and celebrate success.

In this position, you will:

  • Take on an established book of business while growing new business through relationship building, referrals, smart prospecting, research and the ability to sell through strong client needs analysis skills.
  • Create custom and creative marketing campaigns for clients using multimedia advertising options.
  • Help customers develop and maximize advertising budget
  • Create strong proposals and close business on a regular basis.
  • Reach monthly, quarterly and annual revenue goals

Successful candidates will have

  • Demonstrated the ability to grow and manage a book of business
  • Strong Microsoft office skills in particular Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Ability to learn order entry systems and work in Google sheets.
  • Strong multitasking skills and deadline focused. At any one time you will be selling numerous products and closing against multiple deadlines. The right candidate must be fast paced and self-directed.
  • 3 to 5 years of Business to Business or niche sales success
  • Digital marketing sales experience and google certification is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
