What sustainability initiative or environmental goal has your organization made the most progress on in the past year?

Working with the city of Rochester and our team we coordinated a networked geothermal system in the heart of downtown. Large geothermal systems in dense urban environments pose space and logistical challenges, but with our creative, collaborative approach, renewable thermal energy will be shared among several buildings undergoing revitalization. It’s exciting to see buildings that were once in decay come back to life through the use of the latest renewable green technology.

What gives you confidence about how Rochester businesses and institutions are addressing environmental challenges?

Many of the Rochesterians I interact with, across a variety of disciplines and industries, are passionate about prioritizing our region’s environmental wellness. I believe their collective passion serves as catalyst for expanding awareness of renewable technologies and policies shaping revitalization downtown. I am excited for what the future holds.

What area do you think needs more attention or collaboration to strengthen Rochester’s environmental future?

Increasing cooperation between local government, utilities and the private sector to expedite implementation of renewable energy systems into the revitalization of downtown and the surrounding region’s infrastructure. As a whole, the community has a strong desire to help the environment and embrace renewable energy practices; we just need to work together to make the process smoother and easier to get things done.

What advice would you offer to individuals or organizations that want to start making a measurable environmental difference?

Be open-minded. Work together. Listen to the suggestions of others. The Rochester community is filled with knowledgeable people who are using their resources to improve the environment and want to involve others.

What’s your favorite way to enjoy the natural beauty of the Rochester area?

I love the outdoors and the different seasons our region experiences. My two sons and I are often hiking, skiing, mountain biking or fishing. Every season here has something special to enjoy and be thankful for.
