The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Rochester Chapter will host an afternoon workshop to help small business owners, nonprofits and professionals more effectively engage with the news media.
The Press Playbook: Media Relations Made Easy is scheduled to run from 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County (115 South Ave.).
The interactive workshop “is designed to help professionals cut through the noise, collaborate effectively with editors and reporters, and secure meaningful, positive coverage for their organizations,” according to PRSA.
Barbara Pierce, currently director of the city of Rochester’s Bureau of Communications and Special Events, will lead the workshop, which will blend practical instruction with real-world examples. She has more than 30 years of experience leading teams in corporate, advertising agency, nonprofit and government settings.
The goal of the workshop is to help attendees:
• identify newsworthy stories inside their organizations.
• reach the proper reporters at the proper time;
• write concise, compelling news releases;
• pitch interviews and photo ops;
• build ongoing relationships with journalists and editors.
“Reporters need factual, timely stories, and this workshop will show exactly how to deliver them,” Wendy Boyce, PRSA Rochester president, said in a news release. “Attendees will leave with a plan they can put to work immediately to spread the word about their organizations.”
Registration via the PRSA Rochester website is required ($25 for members, $30 for nonmembers).
