What emerging trends or technologies do you think will have the biggest impact on health care in the next 12 months?
The future of health care — particularly for older adults — is increasingly shaped by technology that extends care beyond traditional settings. Over the next year, technology that allows older adults to remain in their homes longer will continue to improve. From remote monitoring devices to virtual visits, health care is becoming more accessible. Our organization is responding to this trend through expanded home care services. In addition to licensed home care, physician house calls and companion care, we now offer Jewish Home TekHub, a resource helping older adults set up and use technology and remote-care tools.
What’s one lesson the past few years have taught you about resilience or innovation in health care?
The early days of COVID showed us what true resilience looks like — our team rose to every challenge. Today, with chronic Medicaid underfunding in nursing homes and ongoing workforce shortages, innovation isn’t optional — it’s essential. For example, Jewish Home is expanding services, such as the addition of IV therapy, and is building a new 90-unit apartment complex called Lilac Grove for adults ages 62 and older. At the same time, we’ve invested in our workforce by offering free groceries to hourly staff twice monthly.
What skills or qualities do you think are essential for the next generation of health care leaders?
The next generation of health care leaders must be adaptable, as change is constant in this field. They need business-minded thinking to navigate financial pressures, especially in underfunded areas like long-term care. Creativity is essential to redesign systems, solve workforce challenges, and expand care beyond traditional models. Most important, transparency builds trust — with staff, residents, families and the broader community.
