What emerging trends or technologies do you think will have the biggest impact on health care in the next 12 months?
I believe we’ll see greater emphasis on technologies that enhance connection, not just efficiency. Tools that support coordinated, person-directed care across systems will be critical, especially those that elevate the voices and preferences of people receiving supports. I’m also watching workforce-focused technologies that reduce administrative burden and improve retention by honoring people’s time and expertise.
What’s one lesson the past few years have taught you about resilience or innovation in health care?
One lasting lesson is that true resilience in health care comes from relationships, not rigid systems. The past few years have shown that when staff members feel connected, trusted and supported, they can adapt in extraordinary ways. Innovation often emerges not from top-down directives but from listening closely to those on the front lines and co-creating solutions that reflect real needs.
What skills or qualities do you think are essential for the next generation of health care leaders?
The next generation of health care leaders will need to listen with intention, communicate clearly across disciplines and build trust in diverse teams. They must understand data without losing sight of people, stay grounded in values during uncertainty and lead with empathy even under pressure. Success won’t come from having all the answers, but from creating space for others to contribute their voice. Leaders will need to be grounded in values, curious about possibility and bold enough to challenge the status quo — with humility.
How do you stay motivated and inspired in such a demanding and evolving field?
I stay motivated by staying close to people receiving supports and those providing it. For both groups of people, their resilience, creativity and honesty are a constant source of inspiration. I make space to reflect, reconnect with purpose and celebrate even small wins. I also surround myself with thoughtful leaders and team members who challenge assumptions and keep the work grounded in what matters most: dignity, equity and relationships. In a field that’s always evolving, I find energy in the possibility, and in believing that meaningful change is always within reach.
