The Strong enters power deal with electricity authority
The Strong Museum is one of three Finger Lakes entities that have won new contracts for low-cost power from the New York Power Authority in its latest round of announcements.
The ReCharge NY program provides power from Niagara Falls and the St. Lawrence Seaway to more than 770 businesses and nonprofits across the state with the goal of encouraging investment in the state’s economy.
The children’s museum is guaranteed 350 kilowatts of power for seven years as a result of its planned $62 million capital investment. It also committed to retaining 169 jobs and adding 30 jobs over the next five years.
“This critical program leverages low-cost, clean energy from NYPA to (encourage) businesses to lay down roots and make major capital investments in New York State, both protecting our environment and boosting our regional economies,” said Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.
Half of the power is from water-power projects run by NYPA, while the other half is purchased from other suppliers.
Also in this area, Alliance Precision Plastics Corp. won a contract for 636 kilowatts, for retaining 159 jobs and investing $1.75 million. Vance Metal Fabrication of Geneva won a contract for 156 kilowatts for retaining 70 jobs, adding two jobs and investing $3.3 million.
The governor also announced the renewal of seven-year contracts including these companies in the Rochester/Finger Lakes Region: Automotive Corp.; Chapin Manufacturing Co.; Flower City Printing Inc.; IEC Electronics Corp.; O-AT-KA Milk Products Cooperative Inc., Pfaudler Inc.; Ultralife Corp.; and Zweigles Inc.
Cuomo initiated the ReCharge NY program when he took office in 2011 and the first contracts began in 2012.
