The Rochester Downtown Development Corp. (RDDC) is helping commemorate America 250 with the installation of history-themed ground-floor window decals at three prominent locations.

The decals were produced in partnership with the Office of Rochester & Monroe County History and historian Christine Ridarsky and Visit Rochester, and focus on Rochester’s history.
There is a different theme at each building. The Wilder Building at East Main Street and Exchange Boulevard has “America’s First Boom Town,” First Federal Plaza (on East Main at the Genesee River) has “A Continuing Revolution” and The Granite Building (East Main and St. Paul Street) shows “The Power of Place.”
The themes correlate to events in those areas of downtown, providing a quick history lesson to residents and visitors.
“Downtown Rochester is rich in history — and America 250 is an opportunity to celebrate downtown’s past while looking toward our future,” Heidi Zimmer-Meyer, interim president and CEO of the RDDC, said in a news release.
“These installations invite the community and visitors to discover the stories behind three iconic downtown locations while supporting our ongoing placemaking efforts.”
The historical decals will remain in place over the coming months. Space for the displays was provided by building owners Matt Drouin (Wilder), Chris Hill (First Federal) and Bob Bartosiewicz (Granite).
“The window decals offer a unique opportunity to celebrate the people, places and moments that have shaped our community,” Mayor Malik Evans said, “and by bringing our history to live at street level, we not only honor our past but also enrich the experience of residents and visitors exploring downtown.”
