Federal funding will pay for infrastructure upgrades at Rochester airport

The Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport will use just shy of $5.5 million in federal funds to pay for upgrades to taxiways, customs and border patrol facilities, runway and apron lighting and baggage claim units.

The money has been allotted from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program and the Airport Grant Program and is part of nearly $63 million awarded to airports across the state.

Nearly half of the funding for Rochester, $2,184,781 is for rehabilitation of several paved taxiways.

Another $1,566,672 is earmarked for the reconstruction of 7,708 square feet of the existing terminal, including customs and border patrol facilities.

Just over $500,000 was allotted to the Genesee County Airport for reconstruction of taxiway signage and lighting. Le Roy Airport $835,000 for rehabilitation of taxiway paving and replacement of an airport beacon.
