Rochester Hope recently celebrated the opening of its newly expanded food pantry, marking a significant step in its mission to address food insecurity in the community.
Founded in 2023 on the campus of St. Michael’s Church at the corner of North Clinton and Clifford avenues, the Rochester Hope N. Clinton Food Pantry serves residents across Rochester and Monroe County. Situated along the border of the 14605 and 14621 ZIP codes—two of the most food-insecure areas in New York state—the pantry currently supports more than 400 families each week.
Designed to remove barriers to access, the pantry operates without eligibility or ID requirements and follows a client-choice model, allowing individuals and families to select foods that best meet their needs.
“We’ve seen a growing need in our community, and this expansion is our response—to meet more of our neighbors with dignity, consistency, and care,” said Dawn Burdick, executive director of Rochester Hope. “As more individuals and families turn to us for support, this space allows us to not only serve more people, but to do so in a way that respects the worth of every individual.”
The expansion nearly doubles the pantry’s footprint, enabling it to serve more visitors while improving the overall shopping experience and ease of navigation. Leaders say the additional space will help Rochester Hope continue delivering services in a respectful and dignified environment as demand grows.
Funding for the project was provided by the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Pittsford, Rochester Hope board members and other community supporters.
The project was brought from concept to completion with the support of Hanlon Architects, Nichols Construction Team and local craftsmen.
