Rochester Business Journal staff writer Kevin Oklobzija won first place in Division 2 in the Feature Story-News category in the New York Press Association’s 2025 Better Newspaper Contest.

Oklobzija received the award for “Henrietta’s ‘ugly duckling’ former Cartwright Inn slated to receive makeover,” which published in January 2025. The were announced at ‘s spring conference April 23-24 in Saratoga Springs.

“This story carried a nice balance between history, family connection and an iconic building in the community,” judges said of Oklobzija’s work. NYPA called the Feature Story-News category — with 105 entries across seven divisions — “the most competitive category in the contest!”
