RRH launches student loan support program to bolster clinical workforce
Rochester Regional Health is investing in the future of its clinical workforce through a new student-loan support initiative aimed at strengthening access to essential care across the Finger Lakes region.
The health system has partnered with Clasp, a Boston-based fintech firm, to help students pursuing high-demand clinical careers finance their education and transition directly into roles within Rochester Regional upon graduation.
The program focuses on critical positions including Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, surgical technologists and radiologic technologists — roles that are essential to maintaining timely surgical procedures and diagnostic imaging services.
“This program is a strategic investment in the future stability of care for our community,” said Charlene J. Wilson, chief people officer at RRH. “By helping future clinicians train and stay here, we are strengthening access to the services patients rely on, while continuing to manage our resources responsibly in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.”
Under the initiative, eligible CRNAs may receive up to $180,000 in student loan repayment support. Surgical technologists and radiologic technologists may qualify for up to $30,000 and $25,000, respectively. Students can apply while still enrolled in their programs, secure employment commitments prior to graduation, and begin receiving structured financial support once they join the organization.
The effort comes as health care systems nationwide face persistent workforce shortages, particularly in anesthesia, perioperative care and medical imaging. These gaps are often more pronounced in rural and mid-sized markets, where recruitment and retention can be more challenging.
By targeting these high-need roles, Rochester Regional aims to build a sustainable talent pipeline that ensures continued access to surgical care, trauma response, imaging and emergency services throughout the region.
