Monroe County sees millions in business funding through New York SBDC program
New York’s Small Business Development Centers helped drive business growth across the state in 2025, with Monroe County emerging as one of the beneficiaries through millions in new capital investment, business launches and job creation.
Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced the annual results for the New York Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), which provide free one-on-one business advisement, training and research to entrepreneurs and small businesses. Statewide, the network served 27,414 businesses and entrepreneurs last year, helped businesses secure $218.8 million in new capital, supported the retention of 31,282 jobs and contributed to the creation of 3,392 new positions.
In Monroe County, SBDC assistance helped businesses secure $5.8 million in funding in 2025. The local center advised 775 clients, supported the launch of 37 new businesses and helped create 1,169 jobs.
“Small Business Development Centers throughout New York State are helping New Yorkers turn good ideas into vibrant small businesses,” Hochul said in a statement. “From Long Island to Niagara Falls, and the North Country to the Southern Tier, these centers are empowering New York small businesses and entrepreneurs to step up, achieve upward mobility and serve as job creators within local communities.”
Administered by the State University of New York, the New York SBDC operates through 20 host institutions across the state, connecting entrepreneurs with experienced business advisors and specialized resources. The local office is at the SUNY Brockport campus in downtown Rochester.
The centers provide guidance across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, technology, retail, agriculture and artificial intelligence, assisting businesses through startup, growth, expansion and succession planning.
Since its launch more than four decades ago, the SBDC network has served more than 550,000 entrepreneurs and generated nearly $9 billion in economic impact across New York.
