Rochester seeks community input on next year’s city budget

city budget logoAs the the begins the process of formulating the budget for , officials are again asking for public input on spending priorities.

An online survey launched this week on the city website and there also will be upcoming in-person outreach as well as a telephone town hall.

“The city budget is more than a spending plan,” Mayor said in a news release. “It is a commitment to our values and priorities. It reflects difficult choices, driven by the same shifting economic and social conditions affecting household and business decisions for our residents and employers.”

The budget will be submitted to City Council in May, and council members will vote in June. The new budget year begins on July 1.

The online survey, available until Nov. 10, asks residents and stakeholders to rank a wide range of city services and programs, including longstanding core functions, recent initiatives, and strategic investments meant to strengthen the the economy and quality of life.

Outreach events include:

• ROC the Block Community Employment Fair, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 24 at Parcel 5 (285 E. Main St.);

• MVP Healthcare Fall Festival, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Parcel 5;

• Sunday Market Days, 1 p.m.-3 p.m. on Sept. 28 at Rochester International Plaza (828 N. Clinton Ave.);

• Westside Farmers Market, 4 p.m.-7 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the St. Monica’s Church parking lot (831 Genesee St.);

• Dewey Avenue Fire House Open House, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Oct. 18 (1477 Dewey Ave.);

• Rochester Public Market Thursday Market Day, 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m. on Oct. 25 (280 N. Union St.).

The annual Telephone Town Hall is set for 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 and will include Evans as well as senior staff members.
