Heron Hill Winery has introduced two new wines as a means of raising money to help protect water quality and the ecological health of Canandaigua Lake.
Created in collaboration with the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association (CLWA), the private label Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc have been crafted from grapes grown at Heron Hill’s Ingle Vineyards.
The limited-edition wines retail for $20 a bottle. For each case sold, $24 will be donated to the CLWA.
“This partnership is deeply personal to Heron Hill winery and our owners (John and Josephine Ingle),” Jessie Gorcica, director of sales and marketing for the winery, said in a news release. “For five decades, John and Josephine have sustainably farmed their Ingle Vineyard on the west side of Canandaigua Lake while crafting acclaimed Finger Lakes wines.
“Protecting the lake’s future is especially important to us because sustainability is a the core of everything we do. Through this initiative, guests can support the conservation of Canandaigua Lake simply by raising a glass.”
The wines are available from the winery’s website and at Heron Hill’s facilities (the winery on Keuka Lake and the tasting room on Canandaigua Lake). Restaurants and retailers interested in carrying the wines should contact Heron Hill.
“We of this region are truly blessed to have clear, pure water and lots of it,” John Ingle said. “The lake is a living, evolving entity and needs to be protected and maintained. Once again, we all are blessed to have people and organizations such as Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association to lead the efforts to preserve the pristine quality of our beloved lake.”
