Rochester’s Genesee Keg Tree among ‘Best Christmas Tree’ nominees
One of the most elegant Christmas trees in America may not be a Norway Spruce, Fraser Fir or Scotch Pine. It might be stainless steel.
The Keg Tree at the Genesee Brew House is one of 15 annual creations from across the country nominated in the Newsweek Readers’ Choice Best Christmas Tree 2026 contest.
First created in 2014, the keg tree has become a rite of the holiday season in Rochester — and a great marketing tool for the brewery. The 2024 version was built at the Brew House off St. Paul Street with 650 Genesee beer kegs and illuminated with 25,000 lights.
Among the other nominees: The National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C., the tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City and the tree at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
“From city plazas and seaside resorts to mountain mansions and gilded halls, these trees capture the season’s most dazzling tradition,” the Newsweek contest page says. “Whether soaring over ice rinks, glowing inside grand hotels or sparkling in town squares, each one tells its own story of craftsmanship, community and celebration.”
Voting runs through noon on Nov. 18 on the Newsweek website.
This year’s keg tree lighting will take place at 7 p.m. on Dec. 5.
