What leadership traits have served you well?

Throughout my career, I have consistently needed to adapt. I view embracing change as an opportunity to show vulnerability, as change is uncomfortable and can be messy. It is also inevitable and necessary for long-term success, making it a great leadership opportunity and a powerful way to bring teams closer together through communication and encouragement.

What key strategies can help others achieve a more prominent role in their organization or career?

Think about what you love most about your work and seek to understand why that piece is so rewarding for you; it will help you hone your skills and serve as motivation. In my role as Senior Managing Director of Retirement Services at Courier Capital, I’ve been rewarded by playing a part in shaping the financial futures of both companies and their employees. Helping organizations create meaningful retirement benefits can be key to fostering loyalty and improving overall employee satisfaction. Plus, educating employees on the importance of saving and planning for retirement and other financial wellness topics is something that can positively impact their long-term goals.

What valuable career lesson would you like to share with others?

Courier Capital logoTrust your instincts. I think women often excel at considering a variety of options for how to handle something, the different outcomes that could result, and how a decision could impact or be received by others. That approach can yield strong results because the decision process was thoughtful, however it can also delay action. Many of the decisions we make through the course of our career will not have a clear answer. While it’s important to evaluate it from multiple angles, at the end of the day don’t defer a decision when your gut is telling you where to go. Women have great intuition, so my advice is to listen to that intuition and trust it.

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

Be inclusive. Your successes will be all the better and more rewarding if you’ve built a strong support system along the way and bring others up with you. Celebrate your peers’ successes and be a champion of those around you.
