CPA, PartnerMentorship is so important to women in the workforce these days. Do you mentor other women through a specific program? Or did you have a mentor that was inspirational to you?
Mentorship is a crucial aspect of supporting women in the workforce, especially as we continue to break barriers and advance in our careers. At MMB+CO, our robust career coaching program enables me to mentor a diverse group of women. One of my mentees was recently named partner, and I am currently mentoring four others. I’ve learned just as much from my mentees as they’ve learned from me. It’s rewarding to see how mentorship can empower individuals, and the collaborative nature of it makes us all better professionals and leaders. I’m especially proud that female partners represent 50% of the total partner group and 59% of the voting partner group, a testament to our program and the importance of mentorship in building the next generation of leaders.
Over the past two years, what as a woman have you learned regarding work/life balance?
I’ve learned that achieving work/life balance is possible with effort, adaptability, and clear priorities. At MMB+CO, where work/life balance is valued, I became a partner with two daughters under age 3. Now, with one in high school and the other in college, I can see the lasting impact of that balance.
What valuable career lesson or lessons would you like to share with others?
I’ve learned that you can create a meaningful, fulfilling career while also being a present and engaged mother. It takes setting boundaries, time management, and intention. I’ve raised two independent, strong women who believe in the power of hard work and dedication. They’ve learned from me that you can do anything you set your mind to, and that’s something I’m proud of. Balancing work and life isn’t always easy, but the effort pays off in both personal and professional growth.
What key resources have you sought to help you lead your company/organization?
As a woman in a leadership role, I’ve built a diverse network of coworkers, mentors and friends. The song “I Get By With a Little Help from My Friends” truly resonates with me because I believe collaboration and support are essential for personal and professional growth. I rely on my circle of people from various backgrounds, which allows me to approach decision-making with a broader outlook. These trusted individuals provide guidance and fresh insights that help me navigate challenges and lead effectively.
