How do you balance legal expertise with client service and relationship-building?
Legal knowledge and expertise are fundamental to the practice of law and underpin every interaction and transaction. But I believe that developing and maintaining client relationships is equally as important, and for me the most satisfying part of the profession. I try to really get to know my clients and to understand their businesses and personal situations. This leads to better professional advice and very often to rewarding and longstanding personal relationships.
How important is community involvement or pro bono work within your organization?
Community service and active community engagement are embedded in our firm’s DNA. We feel very grateful to live in a region with so many fantastic organizations dedicated to improving the lives of those most in need and to making Western New York a better place to live. As a firm, we support many of these communal organizations. We are also proud that so many our attorneys and staff volunteer their time and expertise on behalf of bettering our community.
What is one accomplishment — professional or personal — that you are especially proud of?
As a young attorney, I was incredibly fortunate to have mentors who took great interest in my growth as a lawyer and as a person. Over the course of my career, I have tried to pay it forward by working closely with numerous young lawyers to help them establish and grow their careers. It has been incredibly satisfying to watch so many of them develop into excellent attorneys with flourishing practices of their own.
