What changes in the legal industry do you believe will have the biggest impact on clients over the next few years?
I believe the continued use and development of AI will have the biggest impact on clients over the next few years. AI is changing the way legal services are delivered to clients by automating many aspects of legal practice, such as performing legal research, brief writing, or the preparation of transactional documents. Although AI can and will serve as a very useful tool in the legal industry, I believe that attorney oversight is critical to ensure accurate work product and ethical compliance.
How do you balance legal expertise with client service and relationship-building?
I had the fortune of being mentored by several skilled attorneys early in my career who taught me that an important aspect of counseling a client was to not only provide legal expertise in a particular matter, but to apply the law to the client’s specific business objectives and strategies. To understand the client’s broader expectations and needs of their situation, and to maintain strong communication.
How important is community involvement or pro bono work within your organization?
Community involvement and pro bono work are both valued within our law firm. Our attorneys all contribute to local bar associations by serving on boards, participating in committees, or presenting as part of continuing legal education seminars. Being actively involved in the community has directly contributed to our attorneys building many positive relationships with our colleagues and is an integral part of our firm’s culture.
