New York awards $20.4M for Finger Lakes rail projects
New York State will provide $20.4 million in funding for six rail infrastructure projects in the Finger Lakes Region through the Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program (PFRAP).
The projects will enhance transportation efficiency for a manufacturing facility in Avon and a grain facility in Waterloo while perhaps preventing closure of the Arcade & Attica Railroad Corp.
“New York’s freight rail network is vital to our economy, and these investments represent a down payment on a greener, safer and more productive state,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a news release. “New York is a national leader in freight rail, which is a fuel-efficient method to transport goods throughout the state and across the country.”
Funding awards include:
$4,559,660 to Livingston County Industrial Development Agency for construction of the Jaguar Tubulars rail facility, which will enable delivery of rolled coil steel on railcars for the manufacture of steel piping at a new plant.
$1,771,805 to the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency to connect the Finger Lakes Railway to a grain facility. The project will improve freight access for local producers, reduce truck traffic and emissions and support agricultural viability.
$1,734,000 to Arcade & Attica Railroad Corp. for necessary upgrades and replacements in order to maintain viability and continue to serve business that rely on rail connectivity.
$5,964,817 to Rochester & Southern Railroad for replacement of the Oatka Creek Bridge, and $3,076,338 to the same entity for replacement of the Spring Creek Bridge.
$3,323,623 to the Wyoming County Industrial Development Agency for construction and installation of additional rail spurs, pads, switches and driveways to increase capacity of the Wyoming Transfer Station.
Overall, the PFRAP is providing $101 million in funding across the state to modernize key freight lines and related infrastructure.
