Golisano now among 500 richest people in the world, Forbes says
Listen to this articleTom Golisano’s net worth continues to climb, according to Forbes‘ ranking of the world’s billionaires, a list that also includes three others from the Rochester area.
Golisano, 83, cracked the top 500 on Forbes’ 39th annual list of the richest people in the world. The founder and former CEO of Paychex ranks No. 487 with a net worth of $6.9 billion, up from a ranking of No. 520 a year ago.
Forbes calculates that his wealth has nearly tripled over the past nine years, rising from $2.5 billion in 2016. But the latest stock market volatility did him no favors. Forbes estimated a real-time loss of $53 million in the seven days since April 1.
Back in September, Golisano donated $360 million to 82 nonprofits across the Finger Lakes, Western and Central New York regions.
Brothers Robert and Richard Sands, who built their wealth through Constellation Brands, are again on the list. Robert, 66, ranks No. 1,219 at $3 billion, though that is down from $3.4 billion in 2022.
Richard Sands, 74, is No. 1,362 with a net worth of $2.7 billion (also down from $3.4 billion in 2022). Robert and Richard now call Delray Beach, Florida, home.
Their niece, Abigail Bennett, 44 of Pittsford, is No. 2,790 on the list with a net worth of $1.1 billion.
Terry Pegula, owner of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres and Rochester Americans and Knighthawks, is No. 418 on the list with a net worth of $7.6 billion.
And the richest man in the world: Elon Musk, with a net worth of $342 billion. Oh, one more note: Forbes estimates his net worth declined $2.2 billion in the past week.
