The award enables the Rochester-based firm to use its expertise in high-fidelity imaging systems to deliver solutions that enhance the operational effectiveness and situational awareness of the U.S. Space Force.

Zak Niazi, founder and CEO of Circle Optics, said in the coming decade, thousands of satellites will flood Low Earth Orbit (LEO) – the orbit around Earth that extends up to 1,200 miles above the surface – making it impossible to track them all with ground-based radar stations alone.

“We need persistent vision in LEO to stay ahead of what’s coming,” he said. “That’s why we’re making moves to help enable a satellite network capable of continuously monitoring trajectory changes and detecting potentially nefarious activity, even when ground stations lose sight, through (an) ultra-wide field of view, stitch-free optics.”
