One of the region’s largest architectural and engineering firms has acquired another firm in a move company leaders say will bring additional capabilities to its offerings.
LaBella Associates DPC announced this week the acquisition of Novus Engineering P.C. and its subsidiary, Bagdon Environmental, for an undisclosed sum. Both entities employ a total of 15 workers and are based in Delmar, Albany County.
As a result of the deal, LaBella now has 16 office locations, including eight in New York.
“Our commitment is to provide the right resources to our clients,” said Robert Healy, LaBella’s president. “Having a LaBella team in the Capital Region will enhance our capability to serve both new and existing clients in the region.”
Founded in 1981, Novus originally specialized in energy project consulting.
Over time, projects in energy conservation, cogeneration, hydropower and renewable technologies led to a demand for mechanical and electrical design services, resulting in its incorporation as a professional engineering firm in 1994.
In addition to its mechanical, electrical and plumbing capabilities, as well as its energy efficiency services, Novus offers expertise in building commissioning, air permitting and compliance services for industrial and institutional clients, acoustical consulting for architectural environments and environmental noise, and fuel and electricity procurement consulting.
Bagdon Environmental specializes in ecological services related to state and federal wetlands, endangered species and regulatory compliance. Bagdon Environmental strengthens and enhances LaBella’s existing engineering and environmental service offerings, company leaders said.
All Novus Engineering and Bagdon Environmental employees will be retained in the acquisition, LaBella officials said.
LaBella Associates offers in-house mechanical, electrical, plumbing and civil engineering, bridge and highway engineering, planning, architecture and interior design, program management and environmental consulting.
The firm was founded in 1978 by professional engineer Salvatore LaBella. Today it is led by CEO Sergio Esteban.
LaBella ranked fourth on the most recent Rochester Business Journal list of architectural firms and second on the most recent list of engineering firms.
The Rochester-based company has over 470 employees, including 311 locally.
