What is one challenge currently facing the legal profession that deserves more attention?

One challenge that deserves more attention is clients’ growing reliance on AI as a substitute for legal counsel or as a way to reduce fees. While AI can be a useful starting point, it often lacks the nuance and judgment needed for complex legal issues. I increasingly see clients present AI-generated answers that are incomplete or inaccurate, creating risk and inefficiency. The profession must adapt by helping clients understand where AI adds value and where experienced legal guidance remains essential, preserving the trusted advisor role clients still need.

How do you balance legal expertise with client service and relationship-building?

I view legal expertise and client service as inseparable. Clients come to me for sound legal judgment, but they stay because they feel heard, informed and supported throughout what is often a difficult process. I prioritize clear, practical communication — explaining complex legal issues in a way that allows the client to fully understand the issues and to make confident decisions. At the same time, I remain responsive and accessible, recognizing that trust is built through consistency and reliability. By combining thorough preparation with a focus on relationships, I aim not only to achieve strong legal outcomes but also to build long-term client confidence and referrals.

What is one accomplishment — professional or personal — that you are especially proud of?

I am especially proud of successfully trying a contested probate case in Ontario County Surrogate’s Court involving allegations of fraud and undue influence. Jury trials are rare in that forum, but after a week-long trial, the jury returned a unanimous verdict in my client’s favor, resulting in the Will being denied probate. Beyond the outcome, I take great pride in the collaborative effort of our trial team — another attorney, my paralegal, and legal assistant — whose collective dedication and preparation were instrumental in achieving that result.
