What skills do you think are most crucial for new attorneys entering the field today?
We all know that it is important for attorneys to stay up to date regarding the forever-changing laws and regulations. However, I believe that one of the most important skills for an attorney to have is the ability to listen to your client and really understand his or her specific circumstances and goals. This ability will allow the attorney to use his or her knowledge of the law and past experiences to really help the client to further his or her goals, rather than to just solve the client’s issue of the day. What I enjoy most about my practice areas is the ability to build long-term relationships with my clients that allow me to partner with them to achieve their goals.
How does the Rochester community influence your work or professional philosophy?
I have really enjoyed practicing in the Rochester community for over 25 years. As a small community, it is common to work with the same attorneys multiple times. I believe that this creates collegiality among the attorneys in this community that doesn’t necessarily exist in other communities.
What’s your ideal way to spend a weekend in the Finger Lakes or Western New York?
My ideal way to spend a weekend would be to spend it with my husband and daughters enjoying the many outdoor and cultural activities that are available in Western New York. During the summer and fall we spend most weekends camping and exploring the Finger Lakes. I also enjoy theater (especially when my daughters are involved), attending concerts, visiting the wineries and the many excellent local restaurants.
