Submissions to the city of Rochester’s Request for Proposals regarding a municipal facility solar photovoltaic development are due from solar energy providers by 4 p.m. Friday.
The RFP, issued on May 9, seeks qualified providers to finance, design, install, own maintain and operate rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at several city buildings, including Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial, the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center, the Public Safety Building and other facilities.
The provider will enter a solar power purchase agreement, expected to be for 20 years, with the city to supply electricity generated by the systems. Each installation also will feature a public educational display showing real-time energy output and environmental benefits.
“This solar initiative will reduce our carbon footprint, lower long-range energy costs and inspire others in our community to pursue sustainable energy solutions,” Mayor Malik Evans said in a news release. “It’s a win for our environment, our economy and our future.”
Details on the RFP can be found on the city website.
