What opportunities do you see for growth or development in the Rochester area?
Rochester is a global leader in optics and photonics. Leveraging our market position, best-in-class STEM academic ecosystem and a strong workforce will drive opportunity for our region. Subsequently, this will also create supply chain opportunities in the semiconductor industry.
What’s one project your team is especially proud of?
With over 40 years of shaping the built environment in Rochester and nationally, it’s difficult to point to a single project. The Terminal B concert venue located on the Buffalo Outer Harbor is highly transformative and serves as a catalyst for economic vitality in a once vacant area. I highly recommend seeing a concert at Terminal B this summer.
What’s a lesson you learned the hard way in your career?
The career path I thought I would follow is completely different than where I am today. The hard lesson to learn, and the advice I would give to young professionals, is always follow your passion and be curious. Like me, you may find a path completely different than what you imagined. Be open to it and find a good mentor to help you along the way.
How do you see local government or policy changes impacting your sector?
I believe our region has invested significantly in land use and regulatory advancements over the past five years. The greatest opportunity is better coordination across municipal boundaries to drive common objectives like economic development, sustainability and connectivity.
What’s your favorite building or architectural feature in Rochester?
The First Unitarian Church of Rochester located on Winton Road, designed by Louis Kahn, is exceptionally unique and worth a visit. The natural light, exposed masonry and orientation of the sanctuary creates a very special atmosphere.
