What opportunities do you see for growth or development in the Rochester area?

As Chair of the Board of Directors for Greater Rochester Enterprise, I see tremendous potential in the expansion of our region’s technology and food and beverage manufacturing sectors. Rochester is quickly becoming a hub for next-generation innovation, from semiconductor supply chain activity to high-growth food and beverage companies. These industries are not only attracting major investment but are also poised to generate long-term job creation and economic vitality.

What’s one project your team is especially proud of?

The Sands Constellation Center for Critical Care at Rochester General Hospital. This $260 million, 376,000-square-foot facility was designed to transform the delivery of acute care in our region. It includes 20 operating suites, an endovascular OR, expanded NICU and post-partum services, and new medical and surgical intensive care units. Our team’s work helped streamline patient flow and support a flexible nursing care model capable of adapting to the evolving health care landscape. Having served as Principal in Charge, it’s a project I’m particularly proud of — not just for its scale, but for its lasting impact on our community’s health.

What’s a lesson you learned the hard way in your career?

To take extra time when making key decisions around senior hires and major financial commitments. Being thoughtful and deliberate in these moments helps avoid difficult — and often costly — course corrections later on.

How do you see local government or policy changes impacting your sector?

Without changes to the state’s current energy policies, we risk not being able to meet the growing power demands of the tech and advanced manufacturing industries. If that happens, we could see job creation and product ingenuity stall across the very sectors driving our region’s future growth.

What’s your favorite building or architectural feature in Rochester?

There are many significant architectural landmarks in the greater Rochester area that have been part of the fabric for centuries, but the Monroe Community Hospital stands out as a personal favorite. Designed by local architect Siegmund Firestone, it’s not only a stunning landmark but also carries a powerful story: Firestone hired Rochester’s first African-American architect to assist in its design. The building’s gargoyles are said to bear the likenesses of county legislators from that era, adding a fascinating layer of local history to its architectural legacy.
