The Seneca Waterways Council has named Jonathan Widmark as its new scout executive, effective March 1.
He succeeds longtime leader Stephen Hoitt who has accepted a position with National Scouting America as a territory director covering New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts and part of Pennsylvania.
Hoitt is serving as interim Scout Executive until Widmark’s start date.

Widmark brings over 20 years of professional scouting experience, a track record of leadership and a commitment to growing and enriching Scouting programs in the communities he serves.
“Jonathan’s extensive experience, strategic vision and passion for scouting make him an outstanding choice to lead the Seneca Waterways Council into the future,” said David Bullwinkle, council board president. “We are confident in his ability to build on our successes and expand opportunities for youth in our region.”
Widmark began his professional scouting career in 2003 as a district executive in Portland, Maine, and has since held leadership positions across multiple councils. Most recently, he has served as Scout Executive for the Cape Fear Council in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Widmark also has a connection to the Finger Lakes region, having graduated from Hobart College in Geneva with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
“I am thrilled to join the Seneca Waterways Council Scouting family and help advance the organization’s mission of developing young people into tomorrow’s leaders,” Widmark said. “This council has an unparalleled legacy of service to youth in Rochester and the Finger Lakes region, and I look forward to working alongside our dedicated volunteers and staff to grow membership and programs while ensuring scouting continues to thrive.”
