United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes has provided nearly $2.45 million to Monroe County nonprofits this quarter, the latest installment in United Way’s commitment to deliver nearly $9.8 million in 2024.
The funding supports 53 nonprofit agencies and 80 programs in Monroe County.
“We are pleased to be able to support our dedicated nonprofit partners in Monroe County who are on the front lines in addressing a wide range of pressing community needs,” said Jaime Saunders, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes. “This is an example of how United Way can leverage the generosity of donors to deliver impact at scale.”
This summer, the local United Way announced a major change in its funding model strategy that meant some nonprofits would not receive the funding they had in the past.
Saunders explained at the time that the change in strategy was due to recent economic and environmental impacts, driven largely by the COVID-19 pandemic, which changed the face of the workplace.
Those changes resulted in business closures, furloughed employees and altered or faltered workplace campaigns that supported the United Way, she said.
