MCC Foundation’s annual event honors the local optics community

The Monroe Community College Foundation’s 33rd Salute to Excellence Awards next month is also a salute to optics, honoring those in the industry.  

The event will be held on Nov. 14 at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center. 

The year’s honorees include:  

• Tom Battley, executive director, Rochester Regional Photonics Cluster (New York Photonics) 

• James M. Sydor, a 1971 MCC grad, chairman of Sydor Optics, Inc. and MCC Foundation director, and 

• Richard A. Nasca, manufacturing associate, Corning Tropel Corp. and past president of the American Precision Optics Manufacturers Association. Nasca’s wife and his daughters will accept the award posthumously on his behalf. 

In addition, Michael Mandina, a 1975 MCC graduate and chairman and founder of Optimax Sytems will be inducted into the MCC Hall of Fame.
