President and CEO Kitty Van Bortel founded Van Bortel Auto Group nearly 40 years ago and has developed an automotive company that strives for the highest standards in automotive sales and service, “keeping kindness and integrity at the center of everything” they do.
“I am extremely proud to be a woman-owned business, especially considering all of the challenges I have faced as a woman who set out to be successful in an industry historically dominated by men,” Van Bortel said. “As a woman-owned business, I pride myself in hiring and mentoring as many women as possible. Women are represented in nearly every department in a variety of roles. I am proud to have created a business where women can feel safe and respected, both as employees and as customers.”
Van Bortel has used the success she has achieved throughout her career — including induction into the Rochester Business Hall of Fame, an Athena award, and RBJ’s Circle of Excellence — to help other women succeed.
“I built a company and organizational culture that encourages women to achieve their full leadership potential,” she said. “I share my story of determination and perseverance as a woman who faced adversities in the male-dominated car business. I will always encourage women to work hard and stay focused on achieving career growth and exceeding goals.”
