Messner Flooring, which has been in business in the Rochester area since 1962, has been added to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry.
The registry recognizes businesses that have been in operation for at least 50 years and have made a significant contribution to the community.
Messner Flooring provides flooring services and products to residential and commercial customers. The company has retail locations in Pittsford and Greece and commercial operations in the city of Rochester.
“I am certain that my parents, B.J. and Gina, are beaming with pride that the venture they embarked on in 1962, already with seven children, has not only survived but thrived,” Peter Messner, owner of the firm, said in a news release.
Assemblymember Jen Lunsford nominated Messner Flooring for the recognition.
“Messner Flooring is a perfect example of a small, family owned business with community and heart at the center of its values,” Lunsford said. “Not only do they contribute to our local economy, their generosity and partnership with organizations in various communities, impacts and improves lives in Monroe County every day.”
Leadership at the company will shift to a third generation in November when Peter’s son, Ted, becomes owner.
