Alex Castro, president and CEO of PathStone Corp., has been named 2023 Hispanic Businessperson of the Year by the Rochester Hispanic Business Association (RHBA).

Castro has been with PathStone for eight years and has served as president and CEO since April 2020.

A former executive director at The Housing Council as well as the Rochester Housing Authority, Castro has been named to the Rochester Business Journal’s “Power 100” each of the past three years.

He was invited to the White House earlier this month to participate in a White House Summit on Climate Resilience and Sustainability in Affordable Housing.

“Alex is a tremendous community leader and an asset to the city of Rochester, county of Monroe and state of New York,” RHBA chairperson Lisa Martinez DeVinney said in a news release. “He is a dedicated civil servant and much loved by his community. This recognition is well-deserved and long overdue.”

Founded in 1969, PathStone offers workforce development, health and education, community development and housing services across the northeast.

Castro also is involved with the Center for Governmental Research, Enterprise Community Leadership Council, Monroe County’s Plan Forward initiative, the Rochester Downtown Development Corp., ROC2025, Neighborhood Works, Rochester Housing Taskforce, the United Way’s Latino Leadership Development Program, Rochester City School District Classroom Reading, Red Cross blood drives and Habitat for Humanity.

“This award serves as a reminder that success is not an individual accomplishment but a Rochester community triumph,” Castro said. “I am incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by such talented individuals who constantly push me to be better.

“I am humbled and grateful to be recognized by my peers and I am excited to continue pushing boundaries, driving positive change and leading by example.”

Castro will be honored at the 32nd annual Hispanic Businessperson of the Year gala luncheon on Sept. 19 at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
