A west side packaging and label company will close in December, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice filed last week with the state Department of Labor.
WS Packaging Group Inc., formerly Label World Inc., which produces high-quality label and packaging products, will close at the end of the year for economic reasons, according to the notice. Thirty-eight employees, who are not represented by a union, will be affected by the closure.
Calls to the Jetview Drive facility and the company’s Wisconsin headquarters were not returned this week.
Label World was acquired by WS Packaging in 2013, when the company had some 50 staffers. The local company was founded by Bob and Janet Allardice in 1985. In 2006 Label World was acquired by private-equity firm Kamylon Capital LLC in Boston. In 2011 the Tag and Label Manufacturer’s Institute honored the company with its Environmental Leadership Award.
Label World then-president and CEO John McDermott told the RBJ in 2013 he expected WS Packaging to retain all of its employees, noting that when the company was looking for potential future partners, one of the primary concerns was partnering with a company that was committed to the local community.
WS Packaging in 2016 closed both its Phoenix, Ariz., and Elk River, Minn., manufacturing facilities. Last year, Platinum Equity acquired the company from J.W. Childs Associates L.P. A month later the company closed its Peachtree City, Ga., manufacturing site.
