The Eastside Family YMCA in Penfield unveiled a $7 million, 34,000-square-foot expansion on Monday, making it one of the largest YMCA branches in North America and one of the first medical and wellness complexes of its kind in the area.
The expansion included a sports performance center with 20 yards by 25 yards of field turf, Olympic racks and embedded platforms, sprint lanes and certified trainers. It also has a cycle stadium with 80 bikes in tiered levels, a family and youth gymnasium, a resource center for active older adults and 128 additional parking spaces.
“The YMCA is committed to the health and well-being of the Greater Rochester community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,” said George Romell, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Rochester. “This expansion means so much more than just additional space at our Eastside branch. We are embracing the future of fitness and providing our members with every advantage possible to maximize their wellness goals.”
Romell added the YMCA is partnered with University of Rochester Medicine, which “gives us the opportunity to share resources and provide new services and offerings to the entire community, making the YMCA the first modern health complex of its kind in the region.”
