Small businesses can get workers’ comp credit for extreme heat equipment

Small businesses will again be allowed a credit of up to $1,000 on workers’ compensation premiums with the purchase of that reduces the risk of heat-related issues for employees.

Launched in 2025 through the New York State Insurance Fund (), the Extreme Heat Equipment Credit provides a 10 percent credit on workers’ comp insurance for the purchase of a variety of eligible equipment that helps safeguard workers.

The program covers fans, ventilation systems, ventilated hard hates, wide-brimmed hats, cooling vests, cooling towels and any other items that protect employees exposed to high temperatures in indoor or outdoor work settings.

“As global temperatures rise, workers face increasing danger from extreme heat in the course of their daily work,” (D-Rochester) said in a news release. “As Labor Chair, my priority will always be to keep people safe on the job. The NYSIF Extreme Heat Equipment Credit provides an affordable way for to ensure heat-safe job sites with relief for the cost of PPE protection measures and lowering their workers’ compensation premiums.”

To be eligible, a business must have up to 10 employees or an annual premium of $10,000 or less and be engaged in , , carpentry, farming, landscaping, firefighting, roofing, insulation, wallboard installation, electrical wiring, plumbing and restaurants.

To obtain credit, policyholders can upload receipts via their NYSIF online account. More information is available on the program website.
