Tap-to-pay now available on RTS Connect, On Demand routes

Tap-to-pay now available on RTS Connect, On Demand routes
Rochester Regional Transit Service customers can now use Apple Pay, Google Pay or chip-enabled credit and debit cards to pay for their fares for RTS Connect and RTS On Demand.
The payment technology eliminates the need for cash (which is still accepted) or the purchase of a bus pass in advance, and customers will still receive benefits of fare capping on RTS Connect rides.
“This exciting innovation as an added form of fare payment is a game-changer for current and potential customers,” RTS CEO Miguel Velazquez said in a news release. “The goal is to make it as easy and seamless as possible for customers to pay to ride the bus.
To pay for a fare, customers can tap their smart device or chip-enabled card on the validator when boarding the bus.
Use of the same device or card on RTS Connect buses will provide fare-capping benefits at the same rates as existing RTS Go customers ($1 per ride and no more than $3 per day).
Cash, bus passes, RTS Go reloadable smartcards and RTS Go app can still be used for payment.
