Rochester customers can now use Pay, Pay or chip-enabled credit and debit cards to pay for their fares for and .

The payment technology eliminates the need for cash (which is still accepted) or the purchase of a bus pass in advance, and customers will still receive benefits of on RTS Connect rides.

“This exciting innovation as an added form of fare payment is a game-changer for current and potential customers,” RTS CEO Miguel Velazquez said in a news release. “The goal is to make it as easy and seamless as possible for customers to pay to ride the bus.

To pay for a fare, customers can tap their smart device or chip-enabled card on the validator when boarding the bus.

Use of the same device or card on RTS Connect buses will provide fare-capping benefits at the same rates as existing customers ($1 per ride and no more than $3 per day).

Cash, bus passes, RTS Go reloadable smartcards and RTS Go app can still be used for payment.
