G&H unveils Rochester Innovation Hub to accelerate life sciences manufacturing

The Innovation Hub for on St. Paul Street in Rochester was unveiled at a grand opening Thursday afternoon.  

The site has been under construction since 2023, shortly after United Kingdom-based G&H acquired Rochester-based GS Optics. 

Rochester Mayor , president and CEO Robert Duffy and Bryan Bothwell, G&H executive vice president, Life Sciences, were scheduled to attend.  

The G&H facility was designed to bridge the gap between R&D activities and full-scale production, reducing time-to-market for life science applications.  

Housing research, prototyping, and ISO:13485-certified, high-volume under one roof, allows G&H to provide seamless support from concept to commercialization. 

Bothwell said the goal of the Rochester site is to focus on translating innovation into quality and cost-accessible production. It also caters to specific volume medical consumable manufacturing needs. 

“What we have learned through our extensive manufacturing experience for med tech applications is that even if you have the most brilliant idea, that does not guarantee it being translated into something that can be made to scale,” Bothwell said. “In the end, if the device doesn’t leave the lab to reach patients, it will inadvertently be of no use for the larger healthcare ecosystem.”
