The grant for the local project was part of an $18 million funding package announced by Empire State Development. There were 12 projects across New York chosen for this round of funding through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.

“Through the Regional Council process, we are investing in shovel ready projects that align with each region’s strategic plan,” said Hope Knight, ESP president, CEO and commissioner. “Collectively, these awardees will create jobs, support new community investments, and generate sustainable economic growth in New York state.”

The Cobblestone Center – a nonprofit in Farmington, Ontario County – is constructing the Cobblestone Community Wellness Center, a fully accessible space for people of all abilities.

The wellness center will house a gym, pool, track, workout space, library, meeting rooms for senior citizens, mental health services, acupuncture and massage therapy. It will also house a childcare center, that includes a daycare with space for up to 100 children, prioritizing children with special needs and those from low-income families.
