The Breast Cancer Coalition has been awarded $150,000 in funding from the state Department of Health to help the Rochester-based organization continue its efforts.

Christina Thompson, executive director of the coalition, said the funding, which the organization has received annually since 2014, “is vital to ensure that the coalition can provide free services and support to breast and gynecologic cancer survivors in 27 counties in Western and . This is reflected in the over 6,700 survivors that we served through virtual and in-person programming in 2023 alone.”

The coalition was formally established in 1997 by survivor Sylvia Cappellino and seven other advocates with the mission to provide advocacy and free support programs. It is a mission that continues today and is grounded in four pillars: advocacy, education, support and research.

“The Breast Cancer Coalition is a critical resource in our community for those diagnosed with breast and gynecological cancers and their families,” said state Assemblymember Harry Bronson, who announced the funding. Their outreach continues to grow year after year, because their programs and services have made such an impact.”
