Years in current role: 1
What was the biggest challenge you faced over the past year?
At Bonadio, connecting with our people is so important to us. This connection came with challenges in recent years, which stem from an inherent disconnect due to technology taking the place of in-person interactions. Our new 5-year strategic plan, which is currently being developed, has a huge focus on our people. We want to make sure the next generation knows why the public accounting profession offers so many opportunities.
What are your top goals for 2024?
Our firm has been very successful at continuing to grow and providing opportunities for our people. Our goal for the future is to continue to give our people access to the latest technology available and provide a great work environment. We want our people to work efficiently and spend their time where they are fulfilled professionally. Living out a model of work hard, play hard all while doing what we love.
What are the biggest changes you expect to see in your industry in the next 3-5 years?
The regulatory developments have not slowed down in the public accounting industry and technology, and the opportunities it provides will change drastically in the next 3-5 years. The “old way” of doing audits, tax returns, bookkeeping, and even consulting are quickly becoming obsolete. I look forward to the advances that will allow the next generation of accounting professionals to perform their duties better and more efficiently.
What is one thing you wish you knew when you started your career?
I wish I knew that a career in public accounting would never be boring. I thought after five years in the business that I’d be bored and leave public accounting for a different position. In actuality, I never got bored and have had a very full career and continue to learn new things every day. This is a profession that provides a great way to earn a living and meet great people continuously.
What are your favorite things to do in the Rochester area?
We have so many things in Rochester that get taken for granted until you travel to other cities and start comparing. I love to try new restaurants with family and friends and enjoy visiting all our museums. I also love to walk and enjoy the beauty that surrounds Rochester.
