After staging a virtual-only event last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge returns for in-person running and walking this year.
The 3.5-mile team race will take place at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, on the streets of downtown Rochester. Frontier Field will host the post-race gathering. This will be the fourth year the event has taken place downtown.
While the 2019 in-person Corporate Challenge drew 7,781 participants, organizers say this year’s event will be scaled back to ensure the safety of participants and race personnel.
“We couldn’t be happier to welcome businesses back to downtown Rochester for our popular celebration of workplace fitness and camaraderie,” Casey Fitzgerald, executive director of commercial banking for JPMorgan Chase, said in a news release. “In partnership with local and state officials, we are confident we can conduct a safe and fun event and set the stage for many future years of Corporate Challenge memories.
“We’re looking to replicate the entire Corporate Challenge experience, but on a slightly smaller scale. Our objective is to re-introduce businesses to the Corporate Challenge this fall, and then return in 2022 to our more normal spot on the calendar with full capacity.”
Entry fee is $38 per employee, with a minimum of four team members required per business. More information, including company registration, is available on the race website.
A free virtual version of the Corporate Challenge also will take place Sept. 22-26. Participants in the in-person event also are allowed to take part in the virtual race.
The first Corporate Challenge in Rochester took place in 1991.
