In the episode, the family was driving through Upstate to get to Niagara Falls. Homer Simpson described this part of the state as “one place that can never decline because it was never that great.”

As the music of “New York, New York,” played, the segment featured a truck falling into a giant pothole, a visit to the Anchor Bar for Buffalo Wings, Kodak Park imploding, a closed sign on Utica’s downtown being changed to “still closed,” and the lights going out in Buffalo just before a blizzard descends. Mohawk Valley Community College was also shown.

“We want the show’s writers to see the very best of New York, and the Fair is the perfect place to highlight the diversity and vitality of one of the nation’s largest economies. We know it’s just a TV show; we can certainly take a joke and we love ‘The Simpsons,’ but there’s so much that’s great about the region,” said , the fair’s director. “We’re attracting high tech industries to Upstate, Utica is the home of the half moon cookie and tomato pie, the star pitcher Patrick Corbin attended Mohawk Valley Community College, and Buffalo has some of the best architecture of any major city in the Northeast. We’ll show them a great time.”

Waffner’s invitation to the comedy writers also includes a gift basket of Taste NY York food and beverages.

The Fair is scheduled for Aug. 21 to Sept. 2 this year.
