Rochester jobless rate drops in June year over year

The unemployment rate in Rochester declined to 4.3 percent in June from 5.2 percent the previous year, outpacing the statewide drop, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics figures released Wednesday. The Rochester figure reflected both a decrease of 4,939 unemployed workers and an even larger decrease of 5,195 in the size of the local labor force. Nationwide metro area unemployment figures ranged from 2.3 percent in Sioux Falls, S.D., to 23.7 percent in El Centro, Calif, according to the report.
