Monroe best in area for mortgage approvals

Monroe County ranks No. 2 among New York counties and No. 117 nationwide in the ease of getting a mortgage, according to a recent study by SmartAsset, a company that provides online modeling tools for personal finance decisions. Best Places to Get a Mortgage cites 2014 data showing that almost 72 percent of mortgage applications in Monroe County resulted in actual secured mortgages, compared with 57.6 percent nationwide and 60.5 percent statewide. But Monroe County’s low scores on the study’s other factors—total borrowing costs, property taxes and annual mortgage payments on a $250,000 home over five years—dropped its overall ranking to No. 2,960, within the bottom 6 percent of 3,143 counties nationwide.
