Auburn Memorial changes name to Auburn Community Hospital
In a move officials say is not related to the affiliation it is exploring with Rochester General Health System, Auburn Memorial Hospital Inc. is changing its name to Auburn Community Hospital.
“This change reflects the stronger connections which the hospital is developing through the communities in the Finger Lakes Region,” Auburn Community president and CEO Scott Berlucchi said in a statement.
Located some 60 miles from Rochester in Cayuga County, Auburn Community last month said it was exploring a strategic relationship with RGHS. The announcement came some six months after the Auburn hospital asked for proposals from area hospitals that might interested in forming an alliance. A partnership of as-yet undetermined scope with RGHS is hoped to bolster Auburn Community’s finances and improve its physician recruitment, Berlucchi said last month.
In choosing RGHS, Auburn considered the Rochester health system’s success in striking alliances with community hospitals in Batavia and Wayne County, Berlucchi said.
