More efficient use of non-renewable sources of energy and the development of local, renewable resources are part of an energy initiative unveiled Monday by Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks.
To that end, Brooks has created an energy advisers policy team to improve energy management and cost efficiencies.
“I am determined to pursue innovative ways to reduce energy consumption and related expenditures,†Brooks said. “The strategies we adopt will help foster the development of energy-efficient technologies throughout the county, and ensure that all new and existing county facilities are designed, maintained and upgraded, as required, to be energy efficient.â€
The policy includes three goals: reducing the use of non-renewable energy; conserving existing energy resources and developing renewable resources; and establishing an infrastructure that will ensure a strong, stable energy environment conducive to economic growth, Brooks outlined in a statement.
The advisory panel will work with the county’s new economic development team to attract businesses to the area and provide stimulus to the local economy, she said.
“I believe Monroe County can become the hub for emerging energy technologies, and this will certainly spur job growth,†Brooks said.
Members of the energy team are: John Graham, director of Monroe County Environmental Services; Dan Lynch, senior account manager, Siemens Building Technologies Inc.; Jeffrey Richardson, a district manager for Waste Management of New York Inc.; Terrence Slaybaugh, director of the Greater Rochester International Airport; Mark Ballerstein, director of engineering and facilities for the county; and Rick Benway, an associate engineer with the county.
