A California company has acquired eTEK Labs Inc., a Brighton-based engineering and development firm.
Belkin Components, a manufacturer of computer cables, connectivity products and computer accessories, completed the acquisition of eTEK on Friday.
The Rochester firm’s 12 employees will continue working at eTEK, which becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Belkin, a privately held company.
“It was a good fit. Belkin was a customer for two years,” said Scott Borden, eTEK’s vice president of operations. He will head the local operations. “We are delighted to be joining Belkin Components and becoming part of one of the nation’s most aggressive, leading-edge technology manufacturing firms.”
He expects few changes at the local facility. The firms declined to provide the purchase price or revenues. The two firms began talks last November.
Eric Tong, director of marketing and product development at Belkin, said the acquisition is part of the company’s efforts to develop and manufacture cutting-edge technology.
Since being founded in 1989, eTEK has focused on research and development of connectivity products and personal computer technology. The company initially was part of Forte Technologies Inc. eTEK’s research has been in areas such as device drivers, operating systems and hardware design.
The company is also a leader in the development of wavetable audio, virtual reality and universal serial bus connectivity products.
